Shoes have been around since the 1850’s, with no difference between the left and right shoe. Lyman Reed Blake was an American inventor who invented a sewing machine for sewing the soles of shoes to the uppers. Keds were the top ‘sneakers’ in 1917. These were the first shoe that was made. The reason why they were called sneakers, was because the rubber sole made the shoe quiet, unlike all other shoes which made noise when you walked in.
